My Top 5 Most Used Rambler Items: Summer 2021 Edition.
There are so many places to gather reviews and feedback on anything you are looking to buy. It can be overwhelming for sure, and I have certainly spent my share of time researching products… especially when it comes to outdoor gear and apparel. One thing I always pay attention to is what the people in the business are buying and using personally. You can tell me all you want about a product, but what I see people actually using and wearing speaks volumes about a product to me. Some of it is just style and preference in certain situations, but most of the time there is something to learn from these observations.
For that reason, I decided to pull back the curtain on a handful of items that I use and wear daily… in and out of the shop. No pumping up certain products or gear just because we want to sell more stuff, just an honest look at the things I am really digging and using these days.
Howler Bros Waterman’s work shorts.
One category we ramped up with the addition of the Myrtle Beach location is shorts, gotta have them in warm South Carolina months. We carry a lot of great shorts from a few of our brands, but my personal go to for the past 2 years has been the Waterman’s from HB. The 4 way stretch combined with the durability (reinforced front panels) is money. The side pliers pocket makes for a great place to drop a phone, which is important with a good pair of lightweight casual shorts. Waterman’s are made of a quick drying nylon (86%), Polyester (9%), & spandex ripstop (5%) blend. I have worn these shorts for just about everything at this point, and have never had any regrets.
Rambler Logo Tee
Maybe some bias here, but our own logo tees are legit. I have always been a sucker for a high quality tri-blend, and we worked really hard to find the perfect American Made Tee to use for the main staple in the Rambler gear line up. I wear one of our tees 90% of the time, in and out of the shop. The easy fit and soft blend are unmatched… and we think the logo is pretty rad also. We currently offer this tee in 6 colors, but I will find a new color soon so I have one to wear on Sunday!
Topo Designs Trip Pack
If I am being honest, this one caught me by surprise. I love Topo bags because their quality, attention to detail, and overall design are top notch. However, with this particular backpack I was concerned it would be too small, but I loved the simplicity and design so I decided to give it a shot. For daily use, the size has actually been perfect. Quick trips to the beach, weekend bike and brew trips with my wife, day hikes, etc. It really is the perfect size to stuff a handful of things when going out for the day, especially when any outing with my wife turns into an outdoor adventure and usually (always) ends at a brewery.
Zeal Optics Campo Sunglasses
I am the guy that cannot walk outside for 10 seconds without a pair of sunglasses, so a good pair has been a very essential part of my life for a long time now. Zeal Optics is probably a brand that we don’t highlight enough in the shops. They really are one of the best sunglass brands out there. Zeal uses all plant-based materials in their frames and polarized lenses, and the result is some of the most lightweight, comfortable, and durable sunglasses on the market. The Campo’s are part of the “Z-Lyte” series which are made to be even lighter, but they have still been very durable as I have used them for everything outdoors by now. You barely remember they are on your face because of the weight, and the size and design of the frames fits most face and head shapes. Their signature “ellume polarized” lenses that come standard with every pair have been amazing on the water as well.
PK Grills “The Original”
No real surprise here, but man I love my PK. It is getting used 2-3 times per week at our house, and we keep finding new things to try on it. The PK Original is everything Rambler is about… simple understated design, time-tested quality and durability, and Made in the USA. One thing I hear all the time in the shop is “I just don’t have time to mess with charcoal.” That is a fair statement, but once you get your process dialed in, it really only takes an extra 10-15min to get charcoal ready. Drew and I both use our PK Original’s to grill and smoke meat regularly, and have both sincerely enjoyed hearing feedback from customers that have picked one up from us over the past couple years. Let’s be honest, playing with fire on the grill while drinking a cold beverage outside is not a bad way to end a work day, or to spend a day off!
Since the beginning of Rambler we have used the hashtag #warestowander, but what is the story behind it?
The goal from day 1 with this journey has been to inspire and equip those that Rambler reaches to get outside and explore the world around them. We never wanted to just sell a bunch of goods to consumers, but rather build a community of like-minded people who love to get outside and find adventure whenever possible. Will this be the case for every person we see walk through our doors? Probably not... and that’s ok. Are a lot of people buying some of our gear just to look good with no intentions of actually using it for adventure or outdoor activity? Probably… and that’s ok too. We certainly appreciate all the love and support we have received since opening the shops.
However, for the people that follow our journey a little more closely, and especially those that really dig the lifestyle we are promoting, welcome to our new blog. The mission for Rambler has not changed, and the things we write about here will be with the intention of chasing our dream to inspire and equip you for life's adventures. We want you to be aware of the opportunities to get outside and enjoy adventure close to where you live. We will also highlight some pretty rad trips that we or others in our community take that may be further away, sometimes a day trip and sometimes even farther.
And as always, when you feel inspired to get out and use your Rambler gear, hit us up on the socials with the hashtag that has been there from the beginning. You all are the best, and we cannot wait to bring you some more adventure inspiration on here.
There is no way we could launch the new Rambler blog without putting the man who is responsible for starting this whole Rambler adventure front and center. We have a video to share that lets the OG Rambler, our dad, Bob Hillman, unpack the story behind our "Since 1969" tag. This epic trip from many years ago laid the groundwork for a lifestyle of wandering and adventure that lives on today. In typical OG fashion, dad was given a few minutes and talked forever. It may be a little long, but stick around... you'll enjoy hearing the backstory behind the Rambler brand.
